Abstract work on paper and canvas, colour as the primary subject
Lis Majerus makes abstract paintings in which colour is not decoration but subject. Working on paper and canvas from a studio in Ettelbruck, she builds up layers of oil and mixed media over weeks, scraping back as often as adding.
Her work has been shown in Luxembourg, Brussels, and Vienna. She is interested in what colour does to time — how a painting can slow or accelerate the moment of looking.
“I want the painting to be the last thing you're thinking about when you fall asleep.”
